Applications

Description

A Thermo-Electric Cooler (TEC), also called a Peltier device, is a solid-state semiconductor that cools or heats a thermal load by adjusting the magnitude and polarity of the current flowing through it. The TEC24V10A is a high-voltage, high-current TEC controller specifically designed to manage the operation of a TEC, maintaining the target object's temperature within a precise range around a set value. This high level of temperature control is achieved by adjusting both the direction and magnitude of the current supplied to the TEC.

The controller operates with a DC input voltage between 5.5V and 24V, and is capable of delivering up to ±10A of output current with an output voltage range of 0 to ±23.5V. It uses a PWM-smoothed continuous output current driver and achieves >92% efficiency at full output. Thermal pads underneath the module allow it to dissipate heat through inner PCB layers; no external heat sink is needed for output currents up to 8A. The TEC24V10ADAPID variant adds a built-in Auto-PID compensation network so no manual loop tuning is required, while the TEC24V10AD uses a conventional analog compensation network for fixed thermal loads.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the TEC24V10A high voltage TEC controller?

The TEC24V10A is a compact, high-efficiency thermoelectric cooler (TEC) driver module. It is powered by 5.5V to 24V DC and delivers ±10A bidirectional output current with an output voltage range of 0 to ±23.5V, achieving over 92% efficiency.

What is the difference between TEC24V10AD and TEC24V10ADAPID?

TEC24V10AD uses a traditional analog compensation network that the user tunes manually for the thermal load. TEC24V10ADAPID adds built-in Auto-PID firmware that automatically tunes the compensation loop, eliminating manual tuning. Both share the same DIP package and electrical performance.

What temperature stability can the TEC24V10A achieve?

When paired with a suitable temperature sensor and a properly designed thermal load, the TEC24V10A achieves better than ±0.001°C temperature stability.

Which temperature sensors does the TEC24V10A support?

The TEC24V10A supports thermistors (NTC), RTDs and temperature-sensor ICs. The sensor type is selectable to match the application.

Does the TEC24V10A require an external heat sink?

No external heat sink is required for output currents below 8A. For currents above 8A, an external heat sink is recommended to keep the controller's internal temperature below 85°C. The module also includes thermal pads underneath that can be soldered to inner PCB layers as a built-in heat sink.

When will the TEC24V10A be available for purchase?

The TEC24V10A is currently in pre-release. Please contact Analog Technologies at sales@analogti.com for sample requests, expected release date and OEM pricing.
