DESCRIPTIONS

Analog Technologies offers 1550 nm Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers (SOA) in hermetically sealed butterfly packages with a built-in TEC and thermistor, so the gain chip stays at a stable operating temperature over the full -10°C to +70°C ambient range. Two gain/power classes are available, allowing users to select between a general-purpose amplifier and a high-power booster.

The ASOA1550N15D25GBT provides 25 dB small signal gain, up to 13-15 dBm output power, and a 7-9 dB noise figure at 250 mA operating current. With low polarization dependent gain (≤2.0 dB), 100 nm gain bandwidth and roughly 4 W total power consumption, it suits fiber sensing front ends, optical test setups and cost-sensitive amplification where an EDFA would be oversized.

The ASOA1550N21D35GBT is the high-power member of the family, delivering 35 dB small signal gain and 21 dBm saturated output power with a low 6 dB noise figure at 1000 mA drive current. Its 90 nm -3 dB gain bandwidth and 60 dB shutdown extinction ratio make it well suited to distributed fiber-optic sensing, broadband light sources, wind shear LiDAR, and space-based optical detection and communication, where both high output power and clean on/off switching are required.

Compared with EDFAs, SOAs offer fast electrical response, much smaller size, lower power consumption and direct current-controlled gain and modulation, making them a practical choice wherever compact, electrically controlled optical gain is needed. Custom wavelengths, gain levels and pigtail/connector options are available on request.
