The TEC24V15AEV2.2 evaluation board provides a complete application circuit for driving and characterising the entire family of high voltage high current TEC controllers from Analog Technologies. It is designed for evaluating the TEC28V15A, TEC24V10A, TEC18V15A, TEC12V9A and TEC9V7A series in one board.

Key features include a versatile interface to every measurement node, on-board pots for the set-point temperature, output current limit (cooling and heating separately) and output voltage limit, DIP switches to select the temperature sensor type (thermistor / RTD / IC) and the SBDN operating state (shut-down, standby, working & sensor-mode), and DIP switches plus solder pads for the compensation-network components CD, RD, RI, RP, CI. A "temperature good" LED, an injected step-signal toggle and a USB-style header for connecting a microcontroller round out the board. Default compensation values are pre-installed for the most common butterfly-packaged laser-diode thermal load.

The TEC24V15AEV2.2 supports all three common temperature sensor types: thermistor (NTC), RTD and temperature-sensor IC. The thermistor input has two selectable modes — continuous-wave (CW) and sample-and-hold (S/H) — with S/H mode reducing self-heating errors by injecting current in pulses rather than continuously.

What compensation-network components can be tuned on the board?

Five compensation components can be tuned via DIP switches S4 to S8: RP, RI, RD, CI and CD. Solder pads are also provided to swap in custom component values. Default values (suitable for a typical butterfly-packaged laser-diode thermal load) are: RP = 124kΩ, RI = 1MΩ, RD = 100kΩ, CI = 22µF, CD = 14.7µF.

How do I select the controller operating mode on the board?

The SBDN voltage selector on the board has four positions, set by switch S1: position 1 (≤0.5V) puts the controller into shut-down; position 2 (1.7V ± 0.2V) into standby; position 3 (2.15V ± 0.15V) into working mode with temperature-sensor IC / RTD / thermistor; position 4 (2.55V ± 0.2V) into thermistor continuous-wave mode.
