The Characteristics of Thermal Silicone Pads

There are many characteristics of thermal silicone pads, such as certain flexibility, excellent insulation and compressibility, natural surface tack and so on. The silicone pads are specially produced for the design proposal of transferring heat by using the gap. The thermal silicone pad can fill in gaps and transfer the heat between heating part and radiating part. At the same time, it also plays an insulation, sealing, damping effect. What’s more, the thermal silicone pads can meet the design requirements of equipment miniaturization and ultra-thin, and they have wide application range of the thickness.

Comparing to the thermal grease, thermal silicone pads have the following advantages:
(1) Thermal conductivity: The coefficient of thermal conductivity of thermal conductive silicone pads and thermal grease respectively is 1.9-3.0w/m.k and 0.8-3.8w/m.k.
(2) Insulation: Because of adding metal powder, the insulation performance of thermal grease is bad, but that of thermal silicone pads is very good.
(3) Morphology: The form of thermal grease is condensate paste and that of thermal silicone pads is sheet. It is difficult to make the thermal grease smear evenly, and it is easy to scratch electronic components or dirty surrounding devices, which can cause short circuit.
(4) Thickness: As thermal conductive materials of filling the gap, the thickness of thermal grease is restricted. However, the thickness of silicone pads has a wide range which is from 0.3 to 10mm.
