If you need a high voltage power supply in your project and you are new to high voltage power supply, then how do you select a proper high voltage power supply?

At first, determine the output voltage range of the high voltage power supply according to the specific applications. There are positive and negative output voltages. Take ATI’s high voltage power supply as an example. The high voltage power supplies come with positive output voltages from 1kV to 60kV, while the negative output voltages from -1kV to -60kV, totally tens of types. The output voltage of ATI’s high voltage power supply is adjustable in a certain range. For example, for a high voltage power supply with a maximum output current of 1kV, the output voltage range can be adjustable from 0V to 1kV. If you need the rating output voltage to be 1kV, it’s recommended to select one with a 2kV output. That’s because a mature design often has a sufficient margin.

When the output voltage range is determined, then let’s turn to output current. The output current is often not high, between 0.5mA to 10A, and 1mA for most of them.

Then select the input voltage according to the overall design of your power distribution. ATI's high voltage power module has DC input voltage and AC input voltage, in which DC input voltage can be 5V, 12V, 24V and 30V, etc. The AC input voltage range is 100VAC to 240VAC and the civil AC power can be used directly in most countries around the world without any conversion. If you have a separate DC power supply in your power distribution unit and the power headroom is sufficient, you can choose a DC input high voltage power module that is smaller and easier to install. If you do not have a separate power distribution unit, or the DC power supply in the power distribution unit does not reserve sufficient power headroom, then you can select the AC input high voltage power supply module, which has independent digital display for output voltage and adjustment knob, more convenient.

After the basic parameters are determined, take a look at other protection design and technical specifications. If your project has strict requirements on ripple or a certain technical indicator, then special attention should be paid. Otherwise, the high voltage power supply produced by regular manufacturers is in line with national or international standards. ATI's high voltage power supply is excellent in performance and indicators, small in appearance, and fully protected. It is widely used in various high-tech fields.

For example, if your project requires a high voltage power supply module with an output voltage of 2kV, a current of 1mA, and an input voltage of 12V, then ATI's AHV12VN2KV1MAW high voltage power supply is your best choice.
