Let's look at a series of laser drivers ATLSxA104 with ultra-low output noise, small size, and current limit protection. There are 5 models of this series of laser drivers, among which the one with highest output current can drive 1.5A diode lasers. The “xA” in the part number represents the maximum output current of the laser driver module, which can be: 100MA, 250MA, 500MA, 1A and 1.5A respectively. The laser driver is powered by a 5V supply, and the output voltage is 0.5V to 3.6V. The controller has a temperature compensation network, so even if the controller temperature increases, the output current will remain unchanged. There are 2 packaging versions available: DIP through hole package and SMT surface mount type.

The block diagram shows that the laser driver provides these the functions: laser current limit, laser current monitoring, over temperature protection, loop good indication, soft start, standby and shut down. This laser driver ATLSxA104 can be used with the evaluation board ATLS1A103DEV1.0. The evaluation board has a virtual laser that can be used to simulate how the actual laser diode would be driven by the laser driver. There is a switch bank at the bottom center of the board. The 2 potentiometers are located on the left of the switch bank. Please check the application notes for more information about the evaluation board:
